At the Writing Desk

Sheen appears as a contrasting, reflective surface where the ink gathers. Smooth, low-absorbency paper such as Tomoe River or iroful helps reveal the effect; a broader nib or generous ink flow can make it more pronounced. On absorbent paper, the base color will be more prominent.

Allow extra drying time before turning the page or closing a notebook. These water-soluble inks dry more slowly than conventional writing inks.
