Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Wearingeul Henry Jekyll is a deep crimson fountain pen ink that moves toward wine and burgundy as the color gathers on the page.

Produced by Wearingeul as part of its World Literature Ink Collection, Henry Jekyll translates one half of Stevenson's divided character into ink. The restrained, dark red is particularly fitting for Jekyll: respectable at first glance, but carrying something considerably less orderly beneath the surface.

What makes Henry Jekyll interesting is that it does not behave visually like a simple red. In the swatch, the color deepens considerably where the ink pools, moving from crimson toward a rich wine or burgundy.

That makes it an unusually appealing literary writing color. It has enough red to retain its character, but enough darkness to feel substantial on the page rather than decorative.

And, inevitably, Henry Jekyll belongs beside Edward Hyde. The two inks are more interesting when encountered together—not merely as coordinating colors, but as Wearingeul's interpretation of Stevenson's divided character.
