Monboddo's Hat was created in 2019 by Diamine together with the Fountain Pens UK community, a group of British pen enthusiasts who set out to make a purple of their own. They took their inspiration from a purple top hat, and the name has been part of Diamine's regular range ever since.
On the page it is a medium, jewel-toned purple, balanced between pink and blue: bright enough to feel modern, classic enough for letters and journals. Where the ink pools on smooth paper, it can show a quiet olive-gold sheen. The generous 80 mL bottle comes from Diamine of Liverpool, England, who have been making ink since 1864.
