The color of tea leaves in the bottom of the cup.

Earl Grey began in 2017, when Diamine invited the Reddit fountain pen community to choose a color of their own. The result was a grey with character, and it has since joined Diamine's regular range.

On the page it is a medium-to-dark grey with a subtle purple cast, a little like the dried leaves of the tea it is named for. It goes down darker and settles a shade lighter as it dries, and it shades crisply where the ink pools. It is a grey for long letters, ledgers and journals, quieter than black but never dull. The generous 80 mL bottle comes from Diamine of Liverpool, England, who have been making ink since 1864.
