Wearingeul Thumbelina is a literary fountain pen ink inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s Thumbelina, the story of a tiny girl born from a flower and carried through a world enormously larger than herself.

The ink is a luminous coral-pink, moving between warm pink and soft red depending on the paper and concentration. Fine sparkling particles give the color a delicate glimmer, particularly where the ink pools or is laid down generously.

There is something appropriately miniature and jewel-like about the color. Rather than a conventional everyday red, Thumbelina feels like the inside of a flower caught in sunlight—bright, warm, and slightly fantastical. The shimmer gives it another dimension without disguising the cheerful underlying pink.

Selected for the Boston Lore ink cabinet for its connection to one of Andersen’s most enduring fairy tales and for a color that feels particularly suited to personal correspondence, journaling, illustration, and moments when ordinary writing ink seems a little too ordinary.

Choose Your Bottle

30 mL Full Bottle — The original Wearingeul bottle, sealed by the manufacturer.

5 mL Archive Bottle — Genuine Wearingeul ink, hand-filled by Boston Lore Studio into a clear Type I borosilicate glass bottle with a lined screw cap. Each bottle is individually labeled and presented in a labeled glassine envelope.

Unlike a disposable plastic sample vial, the Archive Bottle is intended to be kept. Once empty, the glass bottle can be cleaned and reused for ink, refilled from a larger bottle, carried in a pen kit or to the office, or recycled where local glass recycling accepts it.

The 5 mL format offers enough ink for meaningful writing and testing without requiring a commitment to a full 30 mL bottle—particularly useful for expressive colors such as Thumbelina that may be used for journaling, correspondence, or occasional writing rather than as an everyday ink.
