Robert Oster Fire & Ice is one of the inks that helped define the modern appetite for expressive blue. Its turquoise-blue base can shade from bright aquatic blue to deeper tones, while a red-pink sheen appears where enough ink gathers on the right paper.

Independent reviews consistently identify both shading and sheen, but the degree of sheen depends heavily on paper, nib width, and flow. This is a sheening dye ink, not a shimmer ink: there are no suspended glitter particles. Flow is generally moderate, and water resistance is low.
